... I have a couple thoughts about the Heller lecture presentation. This lecture struck me, on the whole, as an bad interview of a critic. There wasn't much particular insight into Heller's editing, writing, art direction or teaching philosophy. The lecture seemed to focus more on promoting the school and his upcoming book. The interview was just uncomfortable and rather "forced". A savy interviewer could have sat him down and explored his experience and viewpoint more in-depth. But alas, the interviewer was not particularily talented at drawing out interesting/inspiring stories or insight. Her questions, and the questions from the audience for that matter, tended to be general in scope. From questions like "what first inspired you?" to "Is print dead?" Heller didn't get the chance to take his apparent A.D.D personality for a good walk and talk. My colleagues and I left the lecture far from interested or inspired.
